The year 2023 sees a boom in the sales of folding phones in the market which has been delayed since 2020 due to the pandemic. According to the Counterpoint report, last year as many as 16 million folding phones were sold throughout 2023 which is an increase compared to 2022 but still a small percentage compared to normal smartphones.
According to Counterpoint currently folding phones only hold 1.3% of the total number of smartphones sold throughout 2023. However, they predict that by 2027, more than 1/3 of phones sold at a price above $700 will be folding phones. In the last quarter, Samsung still dominated this market with more than 73% share with Huawei and Oppo slowly following behind.
