Every Paris Olympics Medal Has a Piece of the Eiffel Tower

The medals of the Paris Olympics were shown yesterday with a rather unique element. Each gold, silver and bronze medal of the Paris Olympics has a hexagonal panel made from metal pieces of the Eiffel Tower.

A total of 5084 medals will be offered at the sports games which will take place for the third time in Paris between July 26 and August 11. This year's event falls exactly 100 years after Paris hosted in 1924 with it also hosting in 1900.

The decision to put the metal of the Eiffel Tower on the medal was taken by the event's secretariat to offer a uniqueness that only Paris can offer. At the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, all medals were produced using recycled electronic waste.

Iron from the Eiffel Tower girders that were replaced for maintenance purposes were used in these medals. Since the Olympics were reorganized in 1896, a total of 36,600 medals have been awarded to winners.
