The Government is Expected to Announce a Policy Related to 5G Dual Networks in the Second Quarter of 2024

The government is now expected to announce a policy related to the formation of a dual 5G network in the second quarter of 2024. This expectation is shared by Kenanga Investment Bank analysts, and if correct, we may hear more about the second 5G network entity other than Digital Nasional Berhad, before the end of June 2024.

Previously, the government was ready to announce plans to form a second entity to operate Malaysia's 5G dual-network model, despite Digital Nasional Berhad (DNB) recording an 80% coverage rate in Malaysia.

The formation of this second entity will later lead to the division of two groups, where entity A will be owned by DNB - whose shares are owned by a number of telecommunication companies. The same goes for entity B which will also be owned by several different telecommunications companies.

All telecommunication companies are likely to remain using DNB's network services while the second entity also reaches the appropriate coverage rate within a period of time to be determined by the government.

Anyway, as always, let's all look forward to further developments related to the formation of the second entity of the 5G network in Malaysia, and how it will lead to healthy competition between all telecommunications providers in the market.
