Although this social media is for public use, not all users want to share to everyone. Some want to share or express something with a small group and some want to make social media a platform where they can express themselves alone. Coming soon, WhatsApp will allow you to limit who can see shared Statuses.
Before sharing the Status later, there will be a privacy option to either share it to all contacts or choose who won't see it. Then select specific contacts such as loved ones only. This feature is especially helpful if you actively use Status but don't want all your contacts to see what's shared. For now, it is limited to WhatsApp Beta 2.24.12.27 users and will be rolling out to everyone soon.
