The government today has officially launched the Guidelines for Governance and Ethics of Artificial Intelligence (AI) or referred to as AIGE. The introduction of these guidelines is seen in parallel with the rapid progress of artificial intelligence at the global level, including in Malaysia itself.
Since the introduction of ChatGPT, many parties have begun to look seriously into the arena of artificial intelligence, and are racing to come up with their own innovations. In parallel, various concerns are present regarding the implications in terms of use, safety and ethics in terms of its development and use.;
These guidelines are expected to be key in building trust in a strong digital ecosystem, in addition to playing a role in empowering existing laws.
Soon too, the National Artificial Intelligence Office (NAIO) is expected to be operational, and these guidelines will move in tandem with it, in an effort to make Malaysia a regional AI hub.
