Mozilla today announced they will end their own Mastodon server under the Mozilla.Social brand. The server will be terminated on December 17, 2024, and in the meantime, users can begin the process of transferring their data to another Mastodon server.
Previously, Mozilla had introduced Mozilla.Social since it opened in May 2023, with a focus on offering healthier social services. However, the number of users of the service is very disappointing.
Based on data through Mastodon servers, Mozilla.Social only has around 270 monthly active users, and a total of 1285 users. The figure itself can be said to be very small when compared to other Mastodon servers, not to mention Mozilla's level.
It is not known why Mozilla has failed to attract users to their platform so far. For those of you who register with Mozilla.Social, you can start the data transfer process before it ends completely on December 17, 2024.
