Last March we reported that WhatsApp was developing a 'mention' feature on statuses that would allow users to include other contacts in status updates. WhatsApp has now announced that they are updating the setup of the feature before it is finally launched.
Through this feature, users will be enabled to include other contacts in status updates with a 'mention'. Then the contact will receive a notification about the matter and be given the option to re-share the status with other contacts.
The concept looks similar to what can be done on Instagram Stories, but the identity of the original creator of the status will remain private. Only involved contacts will receive notifications regarding the matter in the message field.
How to use this feature is also very easy where users only need to press the '@' button available and then select the name of the contact they want to mention before uploading the status.
For now, this feature is only available to some WhatsApp beta users for testing purposes. This feature will soon be rolling out to all users over the next few weeks.
