Selangor Wants to Ban the Use of Plastic Bags Every Friday to Sunday, Starting 2025

The Selangor State Government is currently planning to enforce a ban on the use of plastic bags every Friday to Sunday starting 2025, at any business premises. This initiative is said to be one of the steps in continuing to reduce the use of plastic bags.

For your information, Selangor has implemented a zero plastic bag program since 2010, and is supported by the vast majority of supermarkets and businesses. If consumers also want plastic bags, a charge of 20 sen will be imposed for each plastic bag, and the money will be channeled to environmental-related programs.

Currently, the Selangor government is in the process of assessing the jurisdiction in enforcing this initiative.
