Yesterday, we reported that Google CEO Sundar Pichai wants Google Search to become a personal assistant for users – where it can help users search and do research. 9to5Google recently shared what Pichai meant.
Google is actually seen to have started testing the Search feature that Pichai talked about. It is the Search that everyone knows, but there is a new option called AI Mode. With this mode, Google Search will immediately have reasoning capabilities. When a search is done, it is like chatting with Gemini in a chat room. Then, the interface also looks similar to AI Overview and a bit like Gemini Deep Research.
No links with blue text are displayed, instead search results to other websites are displayed in small cards on the side. After Search does its reasoning, users can also continue to ask for more information.
AI Mode on Google Search in is also said to be offered in the Google application for using voice commands. This is likely Google's answer to the recently released ChatGPT Search. It's not clear when this feature will be introduced, but Sundar Pichai has said that 2025 will be a big year for Google Search. Let's stay tuned.
