South Korea Also Blocks Use of DeepSeek on Ministry Computers

Today, it is South Korea's turn to block the use of the artificial intelligence (AI) model DeepSeek for security reasons. The restrictions on the use of this Chinese-developed AI are on computers in several ministries and also by the police. Like the previous bans by Australia and Taiwan, South Korea has also taken similar steps for security reasons.

South Korea's Ministry of Defense is the first to block access to DeepSeek, with instructions now being given to military personnel not to use it on personal smartphones as well. On Tuesday, the Ministry of Home Affairs asked central government ministries and 17 local governments to be careful with the use of all types of generative AI in the workplace.

The use of DeepSeek by ordinary citizens is still possible in South Korea, Taiwan and Australia. In the United States, a senator has proposed a bill that would make the use of all Chinese-made AI models punishable by up to 20 years in prison or a fine of up to $100 million.
