MEASAT, the satellite communications technology company behind ConnectMeNOW satellite internet service, has recently signed a collaboration agreement with satellite technology company Shanghai Spacesail Technologies to deploy their Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite internet service.
The collaboration will allow MEASAT to leverage Spacesail’s Thousand Sails megaconstellation satellite system, which will enable MEASAT’s satellite services to leverage features such as Direct-to-Device satellite connection, connected devices (IoT) with satellite internet connectivity and even national surveillance using satellite technology.
For Spacesail, the collaboration will allow them to operate not only in Malaysia, but in markets where MEASAT operates, which will provide multiple benefits for both companies.
Through this collaboration, MEASAT will also integrate the Thousand Sails system into their own Geostationary Orbit (GSO) satellite system, which is expected to enable them to provide a wider range of satellite internet services in their markets.
To date, Spacesail has 72 LEO satellites in space, and they are seen wanting to launch up to 15 thousand more satellites in the future.
