11 years ago, we had the opportunity to try out Google Glass which was undeniably unique and was actually launched a decade earlier. Google Glass was one of the first to offer glasses with a screen projection. It was a smart glass with a screen projected in front of the eyes and could use gesture control with the pupil, finger or saying Hey, Google.
A decade later, Meta Ray-Ban became the most popular smart glasses and the war of manufacturers offering more or less the same products started at MWC Barcelona 2025. In this article, I will share my experience using TECNO AI Glasses and TECNO AI Glasses Pro.
USAGE EXPERIENCE
The basic TECNO AI Glasses are just AI glasses for translation purposes and also as an alternative to TWS. They are very light and easy to use. However, there are not many special features compared to what most smart glasses have offered like Huawei, and other smart glasses that are floating on crowdfunding sites like Indiegogo. What really caught our attention was the TECNO AI Glasses Pro with a built-in screen.
It offers a similar user experience to the Oppo Air Glasses that was shown a few years ago. In addition, it also has some similarities to Meizu's AI glasses, MYVU. The TECNO AI Glasses Pro hides the projector component on these glasses well and does not look like electronic glasses at all. Except, if you look at the camera and speaker or the physical buttons on the stem area.
Similar to using a VR, AR or MR headset where if you are nearsighted - these glasses require prescription lenses. TECNO does not reveal who their lens partners are, like MYVU which is limited to its own lenses only.
The green display with a text-based format, simple animations and lines like science fiction foils from the 80s and 90s. Using these glasses gives the feeling of being in a modern retro era. The main interface of these glasses is like a digital clock with a design like a smartwatch where the icons are arranged in circles.
Control is by touch gestures on the right side of the glasses stem. There are also two physical buttons for more flexible control. Gesture control is quite smooth and easy to select application icons. It supports maps for turn-by-turn directions, has camera support with viewfinder, has support for communicating with ChatGPT and can also display text to be used as teleguidance.
I understand that these glasses also support AI features for voice control commands. However, in the test, this feature was not found. These glasses are also part of the TECNO AI ecosystem and are friendly to use with all TECNO devices. TECNO did not explain about the support of these glasses with other devices.
I have tested many smart glasses every time I arrive at the MWC event, but these TECNO AI Glasses Pro are what made me feel excited because they worked perfectly in a short test. However, the overall performance is still a question mark and is the map system reliable because many report that glasses like this usually use their own system and data only.
CONCLUSION
As a user of Meta Ray-Ban glasses, these TECNO AI Glasses Pro are what I want to see on Meta Ray-Ban or the new generation Oakley. I still do not regret buying Meta glasses that are almost two years old, because they still operate well and smoothly. However, even though I have no regrets – I am very jealous of what TECNO has to offer with their glasses. Most importantly, more sophisticated – but lighter and much more comfortable.
As someone who is very interested in technology, loves science fiction movies and futuristic themes, TECNO AI Glasses Pro are the glasses that come closest to bringing the virtual assistant experience with the JARVIS hologram in the Iron Man movie to reality. I really hope that TECNO Malaysia will bring these glasses to market when they are ready for sale. What do you think?
