Gemini Live Now Free on Android and iOS

The Gemini app is now pre-installed on most new Android devices, but on Pixel devices and the Galaxy S25 series, the Gemini Live feature can be accessed through a free Google One subscription. It allows users to chat with Gemini on a variety of topics and I admit it's very useful, especially in camera mode. At Google I/O, Google now says Gemini Live is now free to use on Android and iOS devices.

iOS users can finally use the camera mode and screen sharing that were previously exclusive to Android devices. In camera mode, Gemini Live will understand the object the camera is looking at. Users can then ask Gemini Live to provide nutritional information about the food in their hands, identify the best songs from a music album and recognize the logo of a company.

Gemini Live in camera mode is the same technology used by the Android XR smart glasses that were also officially shown off at the same event this morning. The update will be rolled out in stages in the coming weeks to use Gemini Live for free.
