At Google I/O today, Google showed off a number of new features coming soon, including support for Google Gemini integration on its video calling service, Google Meet. With this integration, it allows a video call to be translated into the language of a person’s choice in near real-time.
Currently, Google only supports English to Spanish translation and vice versa during video calls. Voice is automatically translated, and the video is displayed with voiceover to another caller.
This feature is currently only available to users with a Google AI Pro subscription. Google is expected to add more languages to this video call translation support over time.
