Photos App on Copilot+ PC Updated with Light Source Change Feature

Lighting in a photo is important for producing work that looks interesting. But not many have a professional lighting system to provide lighting like in a professional studio. Simultaneously with the launch of the new Surface Pro and Surface Laptop 13″ yesterday, Microsoft announced updates to Photos, Paint and Snipping powered by artificial intelligence (AI), In Photos, users can now edit light sources in photos.

The Relight feature in Photos can not only add multiple light sources in a photo but users can change them according to personal needs. With this, the original photo can be repaired if there is a lack of light sources or the user wants to change the color. There are several presets provided in Relight but users can manually change various perimeters if necessary.

Next, in Paint, elements in the resulting image can be selected separately automatically. Then using generative AI, it can be changed based on the prompts given by the user. According to Microsoft, all this is done on the device using the NPU without data being processed in the cloud. In a future update, Paint can also generate stickers based on emoji which can then be used in other software.

Finally, the Snipping tool for screenshots has been improved, as it can now capture the elements that users want to capture. This will save time re-editing the image. Like Paint, the AI feature for screenshots is also run directly from the device using the NPU.
