Google announced the Live Updates feature when it launched Android 16 Beta last January. Since then, many have been wondering what the feature would look like, which takes inspiration from the Live Activities that the iPhone has supported for the past two years. The question has now been answered after the Live Updates interface was shown at Google I/O this week.
It was shown during the Developer Keynote keynote with only three slides shown with Live Updates for the Waymo, Uber Eats and Google Maps apps. There is a difference in the location of Live Updates on Pixel devices and Galaxy S25. On the Galaxy S25, it is inserted into the Now Bar at the bottom of the screen.
So far, on Android devices, only Oppo devices have this feature through an exclusive partnership with Grab in Malaysia. It is one of the useful features on iOS and I have wanted on Android devices for a long time.
