Dreamworks and Lenovo Extend Animation Industry Collaboration Through New Technology

Animation company Dreamworks and Lenovo, a technology brand known for their productivity and gaming-class computer offerings, have extended their collaboration, with Dreamworks using Lenovo’s latest computers and technology services.

Dreamworks will not only use Lenovo workstation computers to develop animated films to be released throughout 2025 and 2026, but also other services such as HPC (High Performance Computing) infrastructure and scalable technology.

Throughout 2025 and 2026, Dreamworks will present animated films such as The Bad Guys 2, Forgotten Island and The Bad Guys 2, and all of these animated films will be developed with Lenovo’s computing products and services.

The three main pillars of Lenovo that Dreamworks will leverage in the development of the films include:

Lenovo ThinkStation and ThinkPad P computers – designed to deliver the high performance required in any environment, including modern film production, making them ideal for artists, technical directors and other professionals.

ThinkSystem servers and HPC infrastructure – used to power high-resolution, high-quality 3D graphics and animation.

Lenovo TruScale Infrastructure-as-a-Business offering – allows Dreamworks to add computing power and processing capacity without having to purchase new computers or servers.

The advantage of Lenovo TruScale as an infrastructure scaling service is that Dreamworks can not only add capacity in terms of on-premises infrastructure, but also in terms of proactive monitoring, device management services and 24/7 customer support.

As mentioned, the collaboration between Dreamworks and Lenovo is nothing new. The animated film The Wild Robot, which was released last year, was developed together with Lenovo’s computer services and servers.

The film was developed in 300 million hours using Lenovo ThinkStation computers, HPC services and servers with an uptime of 98 percent throughout the film's development phase, and has generated $333.8 million in worldwide revenue with a development cost of $78 million.

As a result, Dreamworks has retained Lenovo as the development and processing infrastructure provider for several of its animated films to be released over the next two years.
