Facebook is introducing a new security feature that allows users to sign in using Passkey, a more secure and easy-to-use password-less authentication method.
With Passkey, you no longer need to memorize or type a password. Instead, you can log in using your face, fingerprint, or device PIN. This approach makes accounts more difficult to hack than traditional methods.
The feature will be available on iOS and Android devices, and is expected to expand to the Messenger app in the coming months. Passkeys registered for Facebook can also be used to access Messenger when this functionality launches. In addition to logging in, Passkey also supports autofilling of payment information via Meta Pay, and offers protection for encrypted message backups.
Users can manage Passkey through the Accounts Center in their profile settings. Even if Passkey is enabled, users still have the option to use a password as an alternative, especially when using devices that do not yet support this feature.
