Leica Monopan 50 Is Their First 35mm Film Release For Black and White Photography

Did you know that while Leica is well known for their film cameras, dating back to the early 1900s, they didn’t always produce their own film? Their first 35mm film camera, the Leica 1, introduced in 1925, all used film from other manufacturers.

Now, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Leica 1, Leica has introduced their first roll of film, the Leica Monopan 50. The film can be used with any 35mm film camera and each roll can take 36 black and white photos.

The Leica Monopan 50 also comes with a low light sensitivity level, at ISO 50, so users will need to make sure that the aperture and shutter speed settings are set higher to allow more light to hit the film.

The film will go on sale soon, and according to Leica, it will retail for £10 (~RM57), and will be introduced in select markets around the world soon. We have asked Leica Malaysia if it will be sold here, and will update this article with those details later.
