For Mac users, this morning macOS Tahoe 26 was launched with several features that can be said to be unexpected, finally arriving on macOS. This is the second surprise after iPadOS 26 received several features that have only been offered on macOS. Like all new operating systems announced at WWDC, the macOS Tahoe 26 interface uses elements like a transparent word surface.
The first change is that Live Activities have now arrived on macOS after a long time only being supported on iPhone. Live Activities are placed in the menu bar at the top of the screen and when pressed will open the iPhone mini screen via the iPhone Mirroring feature.
Control Center has been given a new lease of life, with it now being the same as that used on iOS and iPadOS. The standardization of the operating system carried out by Apple this year is not just a glass design and numbers but also interface elements. Like in iOS and iPadOs, elements and widgets in this new Control Center can be personalized and resized according to the owner's wishes. Not stopping there, the ability to change the color tone of the icon according to the user's wishes is also provided like in iOS.
For the first time, phone calls can also be made directly from macOS. Until now, only answering phone calls was possible. Again, this was through tethering to the iPhone and finally the Phone app was offered on macOS.
Apple Games is a new app that houses all the video games installed on the Mac. Video game settings and inviting friends to join a game session can be done directly in the app without the user leaving the game.
Spotlight has been updated with more relevant searches. Applications can be searched not only for those installed on the PC but also on the iPhone. More interestingly, Spotlight can search the contents of the menu of the currently open application. For example, you may be looking for the setting to resize objects in Photoshop but can't find it. Open Spotlight and it will immediately provide a shortcut to the feature you found earlier.
All of these features are supported on the Mac computer models below. It should be noted that macOS Tahoe 26 is the last one to support Macs that use Intel processor chips.
Here is a list of Macs that macOS Tahoe 26 will support.
