Malaysia Records First Death Due to Covid-19 Since May 2024

We are not yet victorious with Covid-19 merely changing its status from pandemic to endemic. The Malaysian Ministry of Health issued a statement that the first death due to Covid-19 in 2025 was recorded in the 24th Epidemiological Week (June 8-15). This is the first death due to Covid-18 since 26 May 2024. Throughout 2024, 57 deaths due to Covid-19 were recorded

The individual who died had serious comorbidities, namely heart disease and diabetes, with the deceased also not having taken the second booster vaccine injection. This year 21,738 Covid-19 cases were recorded in the country with 6 cases requiring treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) with all of them being patients with comorbidities. Four have been discharged while the other two have been transferred to regular wards.

In the 24th week, 3379 cases were recorded and is an increase of 68% compared to 2011 cases in the 23rd week. However, the MOH says the situation is still under control.

Booster vaccines can be booked via the MySejahtera app and are offered at 151 MOH Health Clinics nationwide, covering the latest variants of this dangerous virus. The full list of all 151 Health Clinics can be found below.
