Following the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission's statement, each telecommunications company has now issued a statement in support, stressing that all data is processed by them anonymously, before sharing the required data with the government.
It was stressed that no personally identifiable data is shared, and that user privacy is their top priority. However, it was not stated why each telecommunications company did not inform users directly about this before sharing.
Previously, MCMC had said that the data was collected in line with international efforts, in an effort to help develop data-backed policies.
