Starting as a social media platform to strengthen relationships on university campuses, Meta has now evolved into a giant messaging and photo-sharing platform through the acquisition of WhatsApp and Instagram. Like Majin Buu, Meta will continue to evolve to achieve a more powerful final form. This morning they also announced a collaboration with Anduril to develop the XR EagleEye headset for military use.
In February, Anduril took over the IVAS headset project for the US military from Microsoft. EagleEye is a continuation of this project, with Meta using its AI and augmented reality (AR) expertise to support equipment that infantrymen will use on the battlefield.
With this announcement, Mark Zuckerberg is back working with Anduril founder Palmey Luckey, who is also the founder of Oculus, which Meta acquired in 2014. The EagleEye design has not yet been revealed, but Luckey has previously been quoted as saying that it is a device that gives US infantry soldiers the feeling of being superheroes on the battlefield.
Various information will be displayed using AR technology on the built-in screen, providing night vision without the need for NOD and can also enhance the sense of hearing. It resembles the headset from the Tom Clancy Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter video game that was realized.
