Sony FX2 Launched – Compact Cinema Camera

Sony has launched the FX2, a full-frame cinema camera designed specifically for hybrid photographers who prioritize video recording but are still capable of capturing high-resolution still images.

The design is similar to the Sony FX30 and FX3 but is said to be slightly thicker. The layout of buttons, keys, and controls is still maintained as before. However, it now comes with a more user-friendly interface inspired by the Sony Venice camera.

The FX2 is equipped with a 33MP full-frame sensor, Bionz dual processors, and Sony’s AI chip for automatic subject recognition and tracking. The sensor offers more than 15 stops of dynamic range and supports 4K30p 4:2:2 10-bit video recording in full-frame mode. However, 4K60P recording is only possible in the cropped Super 35 mode. The camera can also record at 120FPS in FHD resolution to produce 5X slow-motion footage.

The camera is equipped with ISO 800/4000 in Sony S-Log and supports 16-bit RAW output via HDMI. It also supports the S-Cinetone color profile, inspired by Sony's Venice cinema camera, as well as a variety of Picture Profiles and Creative Looks.

The FX2 also supports up to 16 user-created LUTs for preview or use in final results. In addition, it supports anamorphic lenses with a built-in processing mechanism for 1.3x and 2.0x lenses to provide more options in visual recording.

The camera is capable of recording up to 13 hours non-stop with the built-in fan as long as it is connected to a power source and uses sufficient cards or SSDs. In addition, the FX2 supports Sony's XLR holder for professional microphones and can be mounted with a variety of accessories without the need for additional frames.
