Steam Now Natively Supported on Macs with Apple M Chips

Valve launched a beta version of Steam for macOS over the weekend, finally running natively on computers with Apple M chips. Native app support comes three years after the first Apple Silicon chips were released for Macs.

The Steam app for macOS has so far required that it run on Rosetta 2. With native app support, app performance will improve, and this is a first since macOS Tahoe 26 finally supports Macs with Intel chips.

Macs aren't exactly known for their limited software support and lack the high-performance GPUs that PCs have. But since the launch of Apple Silicon, Apple has stepped up its efforts to support more AAA games not only on macOS but also on iPad and iOS.
