As you may know, the social media platform Twitter was rebranded as X when it was acquired by Elon Musk. The company’s San Francisco office originally featured a Twitter logo called “Larry” that was sold earlier this year for $34,000.
Not much is known about who bought Larry at that price, but now, we know what happened to the bird logo. As a promotion for a startup called Ditchit.
The logo was taken to the Nevada desert to be blown up, and you can watch the video above.
Ditchit is a startup that wants to compete with platforms like Facebook Marketplace and OfferUp in the United States as a platform for selling second-hand goods directly from user to user.
James Deluca, a company spokesperson for Ditchit, said that their plan with such a video is to revamp the digital trading platform segment by focusing on the platform’s users.
The marketing costs for the video reportedly included renting the location where the Twitter logo was blown up, which is located just outside of Las Vegas, as well as hiring four Tesla Cybertrucks and a film crew. The total amount spent on the promotion is unknown.
Perhaps as a way to recoup the money, Ditchit also said they would be opening a bidding process for the public to buy the exploded logo fragment. They said the proceeds from the bidding would go to the Center for American Entrepreneurship, which counts tech giants Amazon, Google and Meta as its advisory board members.
