Tonight, Apple is predicted to change the version numbers on all their operating systems straight to the number 26 to standardize development and reduce confusion among users. So after this, for example, iOS 18 will go straight to iOS 26 and visionOS 2 straight to visionOS 26. Now, reports have emerged that Xiaomi will also follow the same naming system for HyperOS.
The next HyperOS will no longer be HyperOS 3 but instead go straight to HyperOS 26 when it is launched next October. Like Apple's move, Xiaomi is doing the same thing to avoid confusion for users. This is more relevant to Xiaomi who just changed from MIUI to HyperOS a few years ago.
Will this be followed by other manufacturers? If so, is it a positive or negative thing. If you ask me, naming operating systems by year is indeed convenient for most users but is awkward for technology enthusiasts who follow the development of each operating system from the beginning.
