The Aerotrain service at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) which resumed operations on 1 July 2025 has now reportedly broken down again, just days after it resumed operations after being suspended for several years to get new train carriages.
Recently, after operating for only 2-3 days, it has been reported that one of the Aerotrain train carriages has broken down again.
This came to our attention when it was posted on the Places and Food Facebook page, which said that the train had become stranded on the international terminal platform.
A thread on Reddit also showed several similar pictures, and there were also comments saying that the breakdown occurred not because of a problem with the train, but because of the behavior of a passenger who acted to prevent the Aerotrain doors from closing normally.
This action has caused the train to not be able to operate as usual, and is stranded on the international terminal platform. At present, it is not known whether the train has started operating again or not.
Malaysia Airport Holdings Berhad has not yet issued a statement on the matter, but we expect they will want to see if the Aerotrain service can resume, or if the damage needs to be repaired first before saying anything.
Update: MAHB has issued a statement regarding the Aerotrain incident, saying that the train was not damaged, and instead was stopped at 11am this morning due to water accumulating in the tunnel between the main terminal and the international flights satellite building.
The water reservoir was supposed to be pumped out, but one of the pumps that does this job was damaged due to heavy rain, causing the airport to temporarily suspend the Aerotrain service while the issue is fixed.
A shuttle bus service has been activated, and passengers are being taken to their boarding gates without any issues.
