LRT 3 Project Meets Target of Commencing Operations on September 30

The long-delayed LRT 3 line is now 99.21% complete as of July 10, according to Transport Minister Anthony Loke. Loke was answering questions on the LRT 3 project, which has been delayed several times, in Parliament yesterday. This is an early sign that the Shah Alam LRT line will commence operations on September 30 as announced in February.

LRT 3, or its official name, Shah Alam LRT, is the fourth rail transit service in the Klang Valley and will be operated by Rapid KL. The line will have 25 stations, which for the first time are located outside the boundaries of Kuala Lumpur City. It connects Bandar Utama station in Petaling with Johan Setia station in Klang.

The construction of this line cost RM21.93 billion, which is lower than the original estimated cost of RM31.65 billion when approved in 2015. When operational, it will be able to carry up to 39,260 passengers per hour.
