The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 is not the only foldable screen device launched at the Unpacked 2024 event tonight. Also launched are the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 FE which also come with several improvements.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 is a flagship model with a permanent 6.9″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X 120Hz LTPO screen which is larger than last year’s 6.7″. The secondary screen on the cover has also increased to 4.1″ SAMOLED 120Hz. The entire top panel on the back of the device is now a screen allowing more applications to be used without the screen being opened. The device passes the IP48 waterproof and dustproof standards.
The device is powered by the Exynos 2500 chip, equipped with 12GB of LPDDR5x RAM, up to 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage, and a 4300 mAh battery that only supports 25W charging, which is quite slow. However, this year's battery is 300 mAh larger than the Z Flip6.
The main camera consists of a 50MP wide-angle lens paired with a 12MP ultra-wide-angle lens. The selfie camera remains 10MP. The metal ring surrounding the lens bump is also no longer so noticeable.
Like the Z Fold7, the uniqueness of this year's Z Flip7 is the Galaxy AI feature specific to folding screen devices. In Interpreter mode, the outer screen can display conversations translated in real time. Google Gemini and Gemini Live can be called up directly using the power button along with Circle to Search. Now Brief and Now Bar from the S25 Ultra series have finally arrived on the Galaxy Flip series.
More importantly, the Z Flip7 uses the One UI 8 operating system based on Android 16. It is the first device launched with One UI 8 and Android 16 in the world. This device will receive 7 Android version updates and 7 years of security patches throughout its life.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 FE is a more affordable model with a 6.7″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X 120Hz LTPO main screen and a 3.4″ SAMOLED 120Hz secondary screen. This is the same screen size as last year’s Z Flip6. In fact, at first glance there is no significant difference that can be seen. The device once again passes the IP48 waterproof and dustproof standards.
The device is powered by the Exynos 2400 chip, equipped with 8GB of LPDDR5x RAM, up to 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage, and a 4000 mAh battery that only supports 25W charging. The main camera consists of a 50MP wide-angle lens paired with a 12MP ultra-wide-angle lens. The selfie camera remains 10MP.
The software and AI capabilities on the Flip7 FE are the same as the Flip7. Although marketed as a more affordable model, it still has Galaxy AI, Now Bar, Now Brief, Gemini support and 7+7 year update support.
