Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 was officially launched a while ago as the thinnest foldable screen device they have ever produced with improved camera capabilities. At a glance from the front, the Z Fold7 has a design similar to the Galaxy S25 Edge because it is only 4.2mm thick when opened, 8.9mm when closed and weighs only 215 grams. Lighter than the S25 Ultra which weighs 218 grams.
The outer screen is now 6.5″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X 120Hz which is larger than 6.3″ last year. This is because the screen is now wider to make it easier to use the device with just one hand. The screen ratio is still elongated at 21:9 but is now more in line with the screen design on the Honor Magic V5 and Oppo Find N5. Durable Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 is used on this outer screen.
The inner screen is also larger, 8″ Dynamic AMOLED 2X 120Hz compared to 7.6″ last year. There is a camera hole because Samsung stopped using the UDC under-screen camera system. S Pen support was also discontinued, which is another sign that it may also be discontinued on the S26 Ultra next year. This thinner body still passes the IP48 dust and water resistance standard.
The device is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy chip, equipped with up to 16GB of LPDDR5x RAM, up to 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage, and a 4400 mAh battery that only supports 25W wired and 15W wireless charging, the same as last year. Samsung is not yet ready to offer high-capacity SiC batteries on their devices this year.
The main camera consists of a 200MP wide-angle lens paired with a 12MP ultra-wide-angle lens and a 10MP telephoto lens that supports 3X optical zoom. The external selfie camera is 10MP while the internal one is also 10MP. The 200MP main lens is the same as the S25 Edge with 2X optical zoom.
The uniqueness of this year's model is that it is the first phone to launch with Android 16 installed through the One UI 8 launcher. Through One UI 8 there are Galaxy AI features such as turning sketches into images, editing images with AI, language translation assistance on text, language translation using phone calls and document summary features through the Notes app. Circle to Search, Now Bar and Now Brief from the Galaxy S25 are also included.
The Z Fold7 along with the Z Flip7 and Z Flip7 FE are the first devices to use OneUI 8 based on Android 16. All three are the first smartphones launched with Android 16 this year. Like all their flagship devices, Samsung will provide 7 Android version updates and 7 years of security patches throughout the life of the device.
In Malaysia, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 selling price is as follows with pre-orders now open until July 31 while open sales start on August 1. The colors offered are Silver Shadow, Blue Shadow, and Jetblack. There is also a Mint color option but this is only offered through online purchases.
