Sony RX1R III Launched With Compact Body and 61MP Full-Frame Sensor



Sony has officially launched the RX1R III, a premium compact camera with a fixed lens from the RX1R series. It is equipped with a 61MP full-frame Exmor R CMOS sensor as well as a BIONZ XR image processor and an AI unit that helps identify subjects in real time in photos and videos.


The RX1R III uses a ZEISS Sonnar T 35mm f/2 fixed lens that is specially designed for a precise match with the 61MP sensor. As a result, the images taken are sharper and more detailed. The autofocus system has 693 phase detection points covering 78% of the image area and is equipped with a Real-Time Tracking function that allows the camera to automatically detect and track subjects. The camera also supports high-quality video recording up to 4K 30p (10-bit) and FHD 120p, and offers custom color settings for more attractive visual results.


The RX1R III is also equipped with several other additional features. Among them is the Step Crop mode that allows users to change the angle of view to 35mm, 50mm or 70mm via a dedicated button, and then readjust the cropping of the image in RAW format during the editing process. The camera also supports macro mode with magnification up to 0.26x suitable for capturing small objects in detail. In addition, there are 12 built-in “Creative Looks” settings that provide a variety of color styles for more creative editing directly from the camera.


The RX1R III’s design uses a lightweight yet durable magnesium alloy with a flat button layout. It is also equipped with a 2.36 million-dot resolution OLED EVF electronic display and a 3.0-inch LCD touchscreen. The NP-FW50 battery is included with USB-C Power Delivery (PD support allows for fast charging and direct connection to an external power source for long-term use.


The Sony RX1R III is expected to be offered in the Malaysian market from September 2025. Official prices for the local market have not yet been announced at this time.
