The growth of electric vehicles in Malaysia is growing rapidly and there is a need for various industries to support the energy sustainability agenda. This includes the development of skilled people in the electric vehicle arena, starting with the students themselves. Today, the TNB Electron EV charger was inaugurated at Sultan Azlan Shah Polytechnic (PSAS), Behrang, Perak and it is the result of collaboration between industry and educational institutions.
PSAS is a polytechnic that focuses on the automotive field, through the TVET Collaboration Hub and they have collaborated with various automotive companies and industry players. With this charger, it also allows students to know the ins and outs of the EV world, in addition to interacting with real use since this charger is accessible to public users 24 hours a day and night. In fact, the location of this charger and polytechnic is located in the Tanjung Malim district, which is also the automotive hub of Perak which also has Proton and Perodua factories in line with the new energy vehicle agenda that will be highlighted by these two automotive brands.
The charger, which is available as a result of the collaboration between TNB and PSAS, is a 120 kW DC charger with two charging plugs, allowing two EVs to be charged simultaneously. Although it is located in the PSAS area, it is not fenced and allows users using the PLUS Highway to exit at Behrang to stop by to charge. Users need to use the Go To-U application to activate the charger and has a rate of RM 1.50 per kWh. This charger is seen as an alternative to the Gentari charger in Behrang which uses a storage battery system, and allows EV users to charge their vehicles without worrying about travel.
With the launch of the TNB Electron charger, a collaboration between Sultan Azlan Shah Polytechnic, it will provide useful exposure to students and can advance the TVET industry which also targets the use of new energy in the local automotive industry.
