Sony PlayStation 5 has finally reached 80.3 million units in sales according to Sony's latest financial report. This figure was achieved almost 5 years after it was launched. Sony is satisfied with PS5 sales so far because it is comparable to PS2 and PS4 which achieved sales figures in the same period. PS3 for example only reached this figure after 7 years on the market.
PlayStation's business performance is also good with PSN also having 123 million monthly active users. A total of 65.9 million PS4 and PS5 games were sold between April to June 2025 which is an increase of 12 million compared to the same period last year.
In comparison, Xbox Series X and Series S are believed to have only sold 30 million units so far even though both were launched in 2020. This is the reason why Microsoft has started offering exclusive Xbox games on PlayStation 5 since last year and licensed the use of the Xbox brand to ASUS ROG Ally X.
