Elon Musk Asks Mark Zuckerberg to Help Bid for OpenAI Purchase Earlier This Year

The relationship between Elon Musk and the OpenAI team can be said to be not very good. For information, Elon Musk was previously one of the earliest members of the OpenAI founding team, but left due to differences of opinion. Further, Elon Musk also disagreed with OpenAI, which had expressed its intention to transform into a for-profit entity.

In parallel, Elon Musk in February 2025 made a bid to purchase OpenAI for $97.4 billion, with the goal of returning it to open source and focusing on artificial intelligence development with a focus on security. At that time, OpenAI CEO rejected the offer.

After that, Elon Musk sued OpenAI, saying that the firm had breached the contract and was trying to stop OpenAI from transforming into a for-profit company.

In response, OpenAI itself filed a lawsuit, saying that Elon Musk's bid was detrimental to their company's business, in addition to Elon Musk publicly attacking OpenAI on social media.

According to court documents filed this week, it appears that Elon Musk asked Mark Zuckerberg to help him in his bid to acquire OpenAI in early 2025. At that time, Elon Musk was said to be trying to form a consortium in a bid to acquire OpenAI.

However, it is said that Mark Zuckerberg or Meta did not sign the agreement.
