Elon Musk Wants to Sue Apple for Not Listing X and Grok as Essential Apps on the App Store

Apps that make it to the App Store and Play Store recommended lists will receive higher downloads. Apps are usually recommended by store owners based on internal staff recommendations and download trends.

This morning Elon Musk complained that X and Grok were not listed on the App Store’s “Essential Apps” list, even though he said X is the number one app in the news category and Grok is fifth in the overall category.

Musk claimed that there was preferential treatment given to OpenAI apps compared to those under his xAI umbrella. He added that Apple’s actions made it impossible for AI companies other than OpenAI to reach the top spot on the App Store, which is a violation of anti-competition laws.

There is no evidence shared by Musk that Apple is biased in listing apps on the App Store’s “Essential Apps” list. In Malaysia today, ChatGPT is the top free app on the App Store, while X is ranked 69th and Grok is ranked 81st.
