OnePlus Reportedly Wants to Offer 165Hz Screens as Standard

For the past two years, offering devices with 60Hz screens has been seen as a smart way to cut costs for the lazy. More and more mid-range devices are now offering 120Hz as standard even without LTPO features. With 120Hz already the default choice for device manufacturers, OnePlus wants to make a difference by offering 165Hz screens as standard.

This is according to information shared by Digital Chat Station on Weibo. According to him, OnePlus will offer 165Hz panels with 1.5K resolution on their flagship and mid-range devices. This will set them apart from the competition. These high refresh rate panels are usually only given to gaming devices like the ROG Phone. 144Hz panels are offered by manufacturers like Poco.

Will 165Hz become the new smartphone standard in the future? In our opinion, 120Hz is more than enough because it looks quite smooth. A 165Hz panel may look smoother but will definitely have an impact on the battery. However, OnePlus may not want to settle and offering something different with a high-capacity battery is a way to re-establish their brand name.
