The emergency SMS feature using satellite networks has been supported on the iPhone for the past four years. It's interesting, but until now, support for a similar feature has not been offered on Android other than in China. After the Pixel 10 series was launched last week, Google announced that it is the first smartphone that can make video and voice calls using satellite networks.
This is done through the WhatsApp application and it will be activated starting August 28. However, there is no detailed information about which countries this feature can be used in and who Google and WhatsApp are working with to offer satellite networks. In the terms and conditions of the video above, there is also a disclaimer that 911 calls cannot necessarily be made with WhatsApp calls.
In Malaysia, the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro and Pixel 10 Pro XL are already available for pre-order while pre-orders for the Pixel 10 Pro XL will open next month.
