Toyoake City in Japan Wants to Limit Children's Smart Device Use to Two Hours a Day

Limiting the use of smart devices and also daily internet connection is one way that people can benefit from maintaining good physical and mental health.

Recently, the city of Toyoake located in Aichi Prefecture in Japan reportedly wants to pass a law to limit the use of smart devices outside of work and school hours to two hours a day.

Discussions on the introduction of this new law have already begun, and will continue until October 1st before it is approved. If so, the law will be enforced immediately.

A report from Kyodo News said that although it is written that this law is for all residents of Toyoake, those debating the law say that it is more for young children who are still growing up, where parents often use smart devices or tablets as a way to calm them down.

For those in school, the new law simply recommends that elementary school students stop using their devices by 9 p.m., while high school students should stop using their smart devices by 10 p.m.

Meanwhile, although the time limit on smart device use is classified as a law, the local government also said that there will be no fines or penalties for not following it. In short, it gives parents an easy structure to explain to their children not to use their devices too often.
