Government Aims to Identify 5 Unicorn Companies by 2030

At the MyFintech Week 2025 event held this week, Finance Minister II, Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan shared the government's target to identify at least 5 unicorn companies by 2030. The name "unicorn" is already used in the world of technology and business, indicating that the company is ready to achieve a market value of more than $1 billion.

One of the companies that has recently achieved unicorn status is the company behind the digital wallet Touch n Go eWallet. However, the current market value has not been shared at this time.

Several other companies are also targeted to achieve the status in less than 5 years. The government itself has provided several initiatives in this regard, including through GEAR-uP which allocates RM120 billion through Government-Linked Investment Companies (GLIC) to be invested, in addition to other grants provided by the government.
