Grab Fare Becomes as Expensive as Airfare Due to Bug

The ride-hailing service is used for convenience and in some cases is cheaper than driving yourself to your destination. No need to worry about parking fees, tolls, fuel and navigating traffic jams. Around noon this afternoon I was surprised when the fare for Grab's ride-hailing service skyrocketed to the point where it was more expensive than a flight ticket to Japan.

A 15-kilometer journey showed a minimum fare of RM 1,515.30 which jumped to RM 1,814 for Grab Premium. Due to this exorbitant fare, I relaunched the app and only then was a more reasonable price of around RM17 charged. This issue also occurred to Grab customers in Singapore based on my searches on major social media.

Grab issued a statement saying that an issue in their system was causing the incorrect fare to be displayed in the app. At the time of writing this article, this issue has returned to normal.
