Intel CEO to Meet Trump Today to Clarify Situation

Last week, President Donald Trump ordered Intel CEO Lip Bu Tan to resign over alleged conflicts of interest over his investments in China. Intel has not issued a statement in response, but Tan will meet with Trump at the White House today, according to a Wall Street Journal report.

The meeting is to clarify the situation and allow Intel to explain the company's commitment to the United States. It will also allow Tan to explain his personal and professional background as well as suggest ways Intel and the US government can work together.

At the same time, Intel can lobby for Intel to be exempted from the 100% tariffs imposed on chips and semiconductors, as received by TSMC, Samsung and SK Hynix.

In the United States, Tan has been accused by pro-government politicians of being an agent of China loyal to "his birthplace China" because he owns investment companies in the country. They do not realize that the Intel CEO was born in Muar Johor and holds US citizenship.
