Officially, Google has only used numbers for Android names since Android 10. Android 9 Pie was the last time the operating system was officially named after a dessert. But at Google, the practice continues and for Android 17 it is codenamed Cinnamon Bun, according to a report by Android Authority.
Development of Android 17 began shortly after development of Android 16 ended last month. So far, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7 series are the first three devices to launch with Android 16, and this will be followed by the Pixel 10 series in just a few weeks.
For those wondering, the internal codename for Android 16 is Baklava, Android 15 is Vanilla Ice Cream, and Android 16 is Upside Down Cake. Unlike Apple, Google still maintains consecutive version numbers and does not skip straight to the number 26 according to the year the operating system was used by everyone.
