Intel has now said that the US government's 10% stake in Intel could pose a risk to its business, especially when it comes to international sales.
In addition to international sales, Intel also said the move could impact its future government grant efforts. Intel also raised concerns about whether other government entities would also want to convert existing grants into equity or vice versa.
Intel previously generated 76% of its revenue from outside the US, with 29% of its revenue coming from China. It is not yet known whether other countries will restrict the use of Intel chips, as the US government's involvement as a shareholder would raise questions about whether data passing through the chips is secure from eavesdropping.
