Latest Windows 11 Update Causes Storage to Disappear When Transferring Large Data

If you are using a computer with the Windows 11 operating system and often perform large data transfers, you are advised to postpone the update first. Recently, it was reported that the latest Windows 11 operating system update KB5063878 has caused a serious issue where the storage listing will disappear when transferring large data.

This issue was discovered by user X Nekorusuki who said that his SSD storage listing was deleted while transferring Cyberpunk 2077 game data. He used various other SSD storage to see if his storage was problematic or not, but found that a large number of other SSD storages he owned were also facing the same problem.

Although restarting the computer will re-list the SSD storage, the issue related to large data transfers still occurs.

A report from NichePCGamer also seems to have identified the problem that causes this to happen. According to their report, the culprit behind this problem is the latest Windows 11 operating system update, KB5063878, which was introduced by Microsoft on August 12, 2025.

Several other SSD owners, such as an individual using a SanDisk Extreme Pro M.2 NVME 3D SSD, say that they are facing the same issue, only with the previous Windows 11 update, KB5062660, which was introduced on July 22, 2025.

Nekorusuki has also listed the SSD storages affected by this issue, and advises users to wait until Microsoft and storage manufacturers issue an announcement regarding this issue.
