In 2021, Microsoft introduced an edition of the Windows 11 operating system optimized for low-spec computers, and aimed at competing with Google's ChromeOS offering. Named Windows 11 SE, Microsoft targeted it more at student users when it was introduced.
However, the products that use it and market it on the market are very limited, and seem to have received less attention than other Windows 11 computers. In parallel, Microsoft has now stated that it will end support for the operating system.
Microsoft said that it will end support including software updates, technical support and security updates for Windows 11 SE, effective October 2026. Microsoft said that devices running Windows 11 SE can continue to be used, however, users are asked to switch to other devices that support full Windows 11.
