TikTok Temporarily Suspends Live Broadcasting Feature in Indonesia

TikTok has now announced that they will suspend the live broadcasting feature in Indonesia for several days, following the protests that took place in the country.

The protests in Indonesia occurred as a result of the country's citizens being stressed by the current economic and political situation. This was compounded by protests over the increase in housing allowances last year for politicians there, which is almost 10 times the minimum wage in the country.

In addition to demanding a salary cut for members of parliament in Indonesia, the people were also protesting due to high taxes and inflation. Subsequently, an incident involving a food delivery man who was killed after being hit by a police vehicle, caused larger protests to occur in the country.

TikTok said that they would monitor the situation, and temporarily suspend the live broadcasting feature on their platform for users in the country. TikTok has more than 100 million users in the country, in addition to investing in Tokopedia.

TikTok said that they would take steps to ensure that content sharing on their platform is safe, and does not violate any community guidelines.
