The Digital Minister has now shared that the Digital Ministry and the Road Transport Department (JPJ) have begun the process of discussing the creation of a specific legal framework for self-driving vehicles, or driverless vehicles, in Malaysia.
This move is seen in line with the movement in the automotive world, where several cities in the world have begun testing robo-taxis and driverless vehicles. In Malaysia itself, several roads have been created to test the development of this technology.
The transition to this technology also requires preparation in various aspects, including involving infrastructure, data protection and security.
With this healthy development, we may hear more about self-driving vehicles in Malaysia in the near future. Previously, Grab has announced investments in self-driving vehicle companies in bringing robo-taxis to the region.
