Home Minister, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail reminds Malaysians to ensure their MyKad chips are working properly in order to enjoy the targeted RON95 petrol subsidy.
The subsidy can only be redeemed if MyKad is used when refueling, with a video of a device that will be used to scan MyKad to verify eligibility going viral on social media. There are rumors that the price of RON95 petrol will be reduced to RM 1.99 per litre compared to the current RM 2.05 per litre when the subsidy is introduced at the end of this month.
Last July, the National Registration Department (NRD) released an infographic on how to check if MyKad is still operating or not shortly after the government announced a RM100 assistance in conjunction with Merdeka Day. This assistance can be used to purchase Basic Rahmah Contribution (SARA) items with verification done via MyKad.
If your MyKad cannot be read when trying to do government business, is over 10 years old and has physical damage such as scratches, you are advised to go to the nearest NRD branch to undergo the process of replacing a new card.
