With the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI) increasingly growing and the government itself encouraging it, TV3 has become the first Malaysian TV channel to produce a series generated entirely by AI. The animated series Misteri di Sebalik Order began airing on TikTok starting September 6. The first episode is 1:54 minutes long and depicts the life of Cap, a capybara who works as a food delivery man.
Cap falls in love with a customer who orders food named Meknab but there is something wrong with this rabbit-like character. This is the third time that we know of the Media Prima group using AI in their production. In 2023, FlyFM introduced Aina – the first AI radio DJ in Malaysia and earlier this year the visuals for the call to prayer on TV3 and TV9 were also generated by generative AI.
After a few days of being exclusively aired on the TikTok channel @aiseyymentv3_ , the Misteri di Sebalik Order series received negative reactions from viewers. On social media, netizens criticized the use of AI, while in Malaysia there are many artists who can use it. The reaction received by TV3 is different from the KRU group who were the first in Malaysia to produce an AI-generated music video.
The fact is that the use of AI in production will become commonplace in the near future. Netflix used it this year to produce special effects scenes for the series The Eternauts at a much lower cost. Meanwhile, Disney has tried but did not dare to use it in real production because they did not want to be criticized by the public.
